Cereus Poker continues to excel just two months after a widely publicized security flaw the company quickly fixed.

This week, Cereus has pushed aside Ongame to become the 5th biggest online poker network globally.  The network is home to both UB.com and Absolute Poker, proud Gambling911.com sponsors.  Smart marketing and excellent branding visibility can be attributed to the company’s steady growth.

More importantly perhaps is that Cereus has a shot at cracking the top 3 by summer’s end.

PartyPoker, the world’s number three online poker room, has witnessed a decline from just over 5000 real cash players six months ago to around 3700 this past week.  It appeared to be in little danger of falling out of that spot for the next two months as the number 4 online poker network, iPoker, also continues to lag somewhat.

Judging by the interest in the main event so far, the organisers expect another bumper registration field over the four Day 1 heats which started Monday with the Day 1a field already attracting 1,125 players.

Last year’s main event entries were lower than those in 2008, probably because of the depressed economic environment, but still reached 6,494 players, generating a $61,043,600 prize pool that enabled 648 entrants to cash.

This is another part of the relaxation of the gambling advertising laws in the UK. Online casinos and betting companies offering their sites to UK players can now advertise themselves on YouTube using age-restricted campaigns on the YouTube homepage, ads within brand channels and ads on video pages.

It took five hours to reach the final nine during Day 3 of the event, necessitating the final table nine going into a fourth day of action with Manuel Davidian, who had been in the lead as Day 3 started, ending it as the bubble boy on the final table.

When the fourth day action kicked off Wednesday afternoon Adam White was the chip leader on a table that comprised Allan Baekke, Shawn Busse, Owen Crowe, Ilya Andreev, Chuan Shi, Jason Mann, Pekka Ikonen and Wenlong Jin.

By late Wednesday night the affair had been decided when Owen Crowe was eliminated at level 29 in second place for $300,494 after a tense heads up against Busse, who collected the bracelet and $485,791) as the winner.

Crowe had held a 2 to 1 chip lead when the heads up started and he was to increase that even further, making Busse’s achievement all the more remarkable.

By late night Wednesday only 4 players remained in event 49 – the $1,500 buy-in No-Limit Hold’em contest which had started out two days earlier with 2,543 hopefuls taking their seats.

Day 3 of the event started with 23 survivors led by Michael Linn but still plenty of opposition threats in the form of players like Mihai Manole and the UK’s Johnathan Spinks.

Not everyone in England was upset about their team getting eliminated so quickly Sunday in the knockout round of the 2010 FIFA World Cup vs. Germany.  Bookmakers were the only one’s celebrating though.

British bookmakers were spared an incredible $75 million (equivalent to 50 pounds) in payouts to those who bet on England to advance in the knockout stage vs. Germany.

England’s departure from the event after today’s 4-1 defeat in Bloemfontein, South Africa, spared the U.K.

A rank-and-file Republican wants the upcoming state party convention moved from the Green Valley Ranch over its owner’s support of Senator Henry Reid

Do not hold the Republican state convention at the Green Valley Ranch Resort in Henderson, Nevada, says rank-and-file Republican James Smack. 

Smack is calling for the convention to be moved because the CEO of Station Casinos, which owns the hotel, is a Republican for Reid.

"It sends a poor message when you see some of the more prominent business leaders and elected officials doing this," Smack told AOL News.
