Online Gambling Ads Get the Green Light on YouTube

YouTube owners, Google have been displaying online gambling ads on their search engine in recent times, but it is only now that restrictions have been lifted on these ads appearing on the video-sharing and distribution website.

This is another part of the relaxation of the gambling advertising laws in the UK. Online casinos and betting companies offering their sites to UK players can now advertise themselves on YouTube using age-restricted campaigns on the YouTube homepage, ads within brand channels and ads on video pages.

UK viewers looking to view the ads will have to verify that they are over 18. Users whose YouTube profiles show they are over 18 will also see some ads appearing on their YouTube pages while they use the site.

Youtube permits age-restricted gambling campaigns in the UK

Video-sharing Youtube owner Google is allowing licensed UK gambling and betting companies to run display campaigns on YouTube in Britain for the first time, with Ladbrokes the first to sign up, reports New Media Age.

Gambling firms will be allowed to air age-restricted campaigns, including pre-roll, on the YouTube home page, on video pages and within brand channels, although the content will only be displayed once a viewer has verified he or she is over 18.

Italy bans ‘totem’ public poker terminals

The giant Italian gambling company Microgame will no doubt be considering its options following the latest move by the Italian regulator AAMS this week – the banning of public gaming terminals. The terminals – known as ‘totems’ – are found in coffee shops and other public places and connect to poker e-gaming websites mainly associated with the Microgame network. So successful are the terminals that as much as 30% of Italian poker turnover is generated from the machines.

No upside for Kentucky tax payers, State to take all

Kentucky governor Steve Beshear’s latest attempt to squeeze money out of the offshore Internet gambling industry will have little upside for Kentucky taxpaying gamblers, according to a report in ABC News this week.

The publication was examining the implications of the Democratic Party politician’s use of an obscure century-old law to file a lawsuit against Pocket Kings, Ltd., an online betting business based in Dublin, Ireland which also operates under the name Full Tilt Poker.

Indonesian police to monitor online gambling activity in lead up to World Cup

A spokesman for the Indonesian national police in Jakarta, Indonesia has warned that the Internet will be monitored in the run-up to the World Cup football championship in South Africa in order to guard against illegal Internet betting activity.

The soccer spectacular is expected to generate a huge amount of interest in the football-mad nation, creating a flood of Internet gambling through offshore sports betting websites.

In 2004, the Social Services Ministry estimated that there were more than 74 illegal online betting sites operating in Indonesia, and this is likely to have increased substantially in the intervening 6 years.

Bwin ready to re-enter a liberalised French online gambling market

French casino group Lucien Barriere planning June IPO

The French online and land gambling corporate Groupe Lucien Barriere plans to launch its initial public offering (IPO) at the end of June, reports the Reuters news agency, quoting unconfirmed reports on the usually reliable French website Wansquare.

The report named banks Lazard-Natixis, Societe Generale and BNP Paribas as companies working on the listing, claiming that the move could see French hotel and services group Accor selling part or all of its 49% stake in Barriere.

Accor chief executive Gilles Pelisson said in February this year that the group hoped to sell its stake in Lucien Barriere, possibly through an IPO, sometime in 2010.
